I went to another exhibition today. This time I came across a wonderful gallery built, literally, on top of an indoor market in the centre of Thessaloniki. Both the space and the photographs were excellent so if you are in the city over the next month or so check out Alexey Titarenko's retrospective, Unfulfilled Time (Ανεκπληρωτος Χρονος) at the Bezasteni market place (Στοα Μπεζεστενι).

Hrair Sarkissian

Today I happened to come across a wonderful exhibition in the Kalfayan Galleries, in Proxenou Koromila 43, Thessaloniki by Hrair Sarkissian, a photographer whose work really took my breath away. The image here doesn't do justice to the original which is best seen in it's 2m by 1 m glory.

Thessaloniki Biennale

I came across this in the Guardian.

"As Athens braced itself to host the Champions League final between Liverpool and AC Milan last month, Greece's second city was staging its own, alternative, cultural encounters. The Thessaloniki international book fair in northern Greece is thriving in its fourth year, while the fledgling Thessaloniki biennale of contemporary art, which followed on its heels and continues until the end of September, is billed as the country's first international biennale. Both events stress the city's pivotal location, as a Balkan capital and an eastern Mediterranean hub linking three continents."

In a day

Although school has finished, it seems that I'm as busy as ever. As well as a couple of private lessons I managed to fit in a visit to the Telogleio Foundation of Art which is a holding an exhibition as part of the Thessaloniki Bienniale 2007. Later on I met up with friends for coffee. In the meantime, as you can see, I managed to take a few photos, inspired by those I saw in the exhibition.

However, somebody did threaten to, "kick my head in" if I dared take any photos inside a church whose gates I was photographing. Strange as I had just come out the place and nobody seemed bothered by my presence there. Absorbed by what I was doing I didn't take in what he'd said and by which time I turned round the man had walked off.
