Crime in the city

It's a perhaps a testament to the enduring legacy of Al Capone and his cohorts that even today when some violent crime takes place Greek people say, "We're becoming like Chicago" (γινομαστε Σικαγκο). Today I went to a lesson and that was the first thing that my student told me. It turned out that a man had been murdered at end of his street. The hapless victim was a gold jewellery saleman who'd been shot at point blank when he'd refused to hand over a bag containing samples.

To add insult to injury the robbery took place just a stone's throw from the local police station. But I guess they had better things to do than go out and catch crims (see this post).
